Basanti (बसन्ती) is a 2000 released movie based on the novel Basanti itself written by Diamond Shumsher Rana. Mithu, a simple village girl falls in love with Gagansingh but Gagansingh being of the higher post has to hide Mithu away from the palace. Gagansingh is wary of the fact that the queen is in love with him and telling about the affair with Mithu endangers her life.
Gagansingh changes Mithu’s name to Basanti, Ladylike spring. After Gagansingh becomes Kazi, he wants Basanti to be Kazini but could never do so. Silange, the antagonist takes advantage of the situation and convinces Gagansigh that Basanti doesn’t love him anymore. Easily convinced by Silange words, mutiny arises between two lovers. Ganga Singh could not see Basanti with any other men and he orders to kill Basanti. She, however, escaper her death and the killer is found dead instead. Gagansingh is filled with guilt about how he tried to kill the love of his life. He can not stand the guilt and commits suicide. Eventually, Basanti does the same and the movie ends in a tragic note.
